This was the California AIDS LifeCycle in May/June 2009. The red is because it is "dress in red" day, with the idea that the riders will look like an enormous red AIDS ribbon as we wind our way south through the state on the country roads. Over the years "dress in red" had been corrupted into "red dress" day! 2150 bicyclists this year rode 565 miles, in 7 days, from SF to LA, raising more than 8 million dollars in the process. I personally brought in $5,850 for the San Francisco AIDS Foundation this year (2009). Of course, SIWA made my fabulous tutu - it was a hit! I was happy.
